Crazy thing is that Sony produced what may be the best cartoon rendition of Spider-Man ever. And then Marvel didn’t renew and instead produced the barf fest that is Ultimate Spider-Man…
Sony cartoon? The good one that recived a lot of praise and some neat twists that even fooled some of the spiderman fans. Seriously you should check it out.
Ulitmate spider-man? Try spin off of the ultimate marvel… then throw in a super hero team… just to have them appear in half the episodes… and then when you finally get a nice formula going you change it again… Rinse repeat and don’t give a care.
Movies – renew spiderman again just because everyone wants spiderman back in the marvel avengers/good movies. Then try to hold out an keep spider man interest alive as you try to hold out on making Disney buy a lot of money to buy spiderman.
Xmen – if you cared about plot then you wouldn’t have seen the wolverine movies. Also the rebooted the universe so it could take a while for them to run out of ideas again.
FF – when does that contract expire again because we haven’t seen another movie in a while… which could be counted as a good thing depending on your point of view.
Disney – We want more money so buy our new “product” and empty those wallets out people! (Yes it’s just that good.)
Were getting a Fantastic Four movie this year. Its been a big deal. Fox has stated that it will share a universe with X-men, right off the bat giving Fox as many established heroes in their shared universe as what Marvel has.
And a big no to Marvel getting Spider-man. The Sony leak actually revealed that Marvel had been considering buying the Spider-liscence back from Sony, and that their plans involved re-rebooting Peter, keeping him with his aunt may, dumping romance storylines entirly, and focusing on the character as ‘a fifteen year old Peter struggling with going through changes and juggling both school and heroism’
They even talked about trying to shoe horn him into Captain America 3: Civil War.
I’d rather take my chances with Sony since at least with them owning the Spider-franchise we will get a Venom movie out of it, and a Sinister Six. Neither of which are things Marvel has even considered doing. (Seriously. Marvel has been weak in the villain department.)
Plus with as few heroes as Sony owns, we have a chance of actually seeing Miles Morales popping up.
You did see how weak the villain quote was in the last two movies. Grant it lizard wasn’t that bad, but the “Adding villains” just lowered their general quality. I mean Rhino didn’t even last that long and when you finally got to see him in his suit with that movie trailer clip finally being shown in the movie… cut to credits.
Maybe another reboot might give it a shot… besides their movies tend to stay in the trilogy category so no venom for you. (Yes I also feel the pain.)
As for romance? the first three movies just had the Jane be eye candy and not much else. Grant it the new romance angle was a LOT better, but I don’t we will see much of that in the next movie (Your pick between bad quality or no girl or girl show up at the ending and hit credits again.)
Don’t forget that the Hulk movies are owned by another studio (Universal), but are canon to the Disney-owned films. Just to make things more complicated.
Highest praise? Have you seen the reactions to Agents of Shield? Not to mention Agent Carter has been pretty mild in ratings.
And geez, Iron man 2 is certainly not getting the highest of praise for its writing (or much else.) And their Hulk movie was enough of a black mark that Marvel decided to make the green guy into a set piece rather than risk giving him his own film.
Eh, its plot holes and blah continuity are pretty glaring, but the movie managed to do well enough.
I was thinking of the second Iron Man which I have heard nothing but complaints over, which seems to have near universal dislike due to numerous elements from convenient new elements being discovered out of the blue because reasons to shoe horned SHIELD popping up to help Tony out, to the villains being pointlessly forgettable.
It’s mixed up, Sony actually has rights to Spider-man and FF, while Fox makes X-men. Also, making the division so black-and-white hardly tells the story, Marvel has it’s low points too – Iron Man 2 was mostly crappy, both Thors were “meh” at best. While at least half of X-men movies and two first Spiders were really good. In fact, in terms of story, I rate “DoFP” higher than pretty much everything Marvel have done so far.
OK, going by the IMDB, Frank is in a nearby alternate reality.
Here, Fox holds the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, Columbia (a division of Sony) has Spiderman and Ghost Rider, and Universal (a division of Comcast these days – and thus unlikely to get better) has the rights to the Hulk.
At least it is not like when I was growing up, when adults would take the books away from kids that the kids were reading, and give them a comic book and tell the, “This is more your reading level.”
Van, I have never heard of that before. Ever. Keep in mind, our local library started carrying comic books around when I was in sixth grade and it was still more likely you’d have an adult take away the comic and give you a “real” book.
It happened to me. Apparently, 4th graders aren’t supposed to be reading Swiss Family Robinson, Robinson Crusoe, Henry V, C.S. Forster, Zane Grey, etc.
I had a collegiate reading level by the end of seventh grade (when we were tested). Heck, I was probably better read then than many college graduates are now.
Pfft. I was reading the fifth Hitchhiker’s Guide in 6th Grade, and an adult suspense novel in 7th. Mind you, I had to infer half the words in the latter, but I was college level in middle school solely because I was able to pick up what words meant through context.
Small slip there? Sony has Spider-man and FOX has X-men
So, Columbia Pictures indulges in pacts with Dark Forces? Interesting… and that explains so many other things….
Why do you think do many of their movies suck?
It’s not why their movies are so bad, it’s just how they manage to still be in business after making all the bad movies.
It is simple, there are those who are willing to pay for crap and support crap, no matter the cost. Primary example: Apple.
I’m convinced that Apple has its own dark pact going on as well.
Well…they DID do GHOSTBUSTERS…
I think you got mixed up there. I’m reasonably sure it’s Fox who holds the rights for X-Men while Sony holds the rights for Spider-Man.

I thought he was referencing the “it’s all the same” viewpoint taken by the people he was referencing?

Hmm, I’m pretty sure that Sony produced the last 5 Spiderman movies rather than Fox. Fox has Fantastic Four instead of Sony.
Oops, meant that Fox has X-men, as well as Fantastic Four.
What about Punisher?
What?! I LIKED the Ghost Rider movies! Course I also liked Howard the Duck.
The first one was good, in a Hammer Horror way. The second had pretty much zero ties to the first, other than the title character.
Hollywood reserves the right to screw anything up.
The Ghostrider films are something of a guilty pleasure of mine…
The only thing that made the first one worth watching was Sam Elliott. It’s too bad they didn’t let him actually do much.
Heck, I’d love to see a movie about his character’s ghostrider days!

Oh, look. comic book nerds arguing about movie continuity. How adorable.

IME, the average movie goer is barely aware Marvel superhero films are distinct from DC superhero films.
“No, you see Superman is based on a comic by a different company…”
“Comics? Are they still making those?”
At least it is not like when I was growing up, when adults would take the books away from kids that the kids were reading, and give them a comic book and tell the, “This is more your reading level.”

Had a 12th grade reading level in the 7th grade. I can therefor see that happening.
Pretty much what I did, context and a mom who helped my by buying a good set of encyclopedias while in grade school.
And the less said about a DC movie/tv franchise the better.
